Why it's important to take a break from city life

Exotic cuisines and cultural events on tap, night out potential no matter what day it is, thousands of people to date, get to know and be inspired by. The city life is a fast and addictively exciting one that will keep you entertained for years and years.

But, if like me, you feel just as at home in nature and wide open spaces as you do munching on a poke bowl washed down with a watermelon margarita, you'll no doubt feel a deep craving for that outdoor adventure.

As a self confessed foodie, lover of music and professional people watcher London is ideal, however there's nothing like the sense of release and calm being engulfed in nature can bring you. Not only is it important for your mind and general well being, by giving yourself the time to stop and slow down a little, it frees up space for creative, out-there thoughts as well as 'you' time.

Like most things, the Scandi's have a tricky to pronounce notion for this 'Friluftsliv' (free-loofts-liv). The literal translation from Norwegian is 'free air life' but much like good old hygge it's more about a feeling and way of life which in this case is exploring nature and how it boosts our ambiance and contentment.

So whether you're a city girl, an outdoor addict or like myself a bit of the two, get those walking shoes on or plan a trip away and embrace the calm and stillness of the mind in a storm of buzzing city escapades. Then reward yourself with a pub lunch/ pint at the end, obvs.

With this notion in mind, I headed beyond my East London dwelling to explore Walthamstow Marshes and Lee Valley. A small excursion that I could squeeze into a busy weekend, but a little reconnection with nature (rolling in daffodils) always does me a world of good.
